Fall 2026  |  Operations Newsletter

A Note from Ernie

A Year of Good Change

This has been a year of change for Sizemore, and it has been good change!

In July we welcomed Carlson Building Maintenance into the company. They have been cleaning retail and grocery locations across the Upper Midwest since 1959, and you can read more about them below. We are a bigger company than we were in the spring, serving more of the country than we did a year ago.

We have several new leaders on the teams: in Security, in Safety, in Operations and in Sales. Building on your foundation, these new team members will help us take Sizemore to the next level in quality and in growth.

For the first time in September we recognized associates for excellent service, literally Putting You First. In this issue we are proud to present the first winners of the Sizemore Spotlight. We built that program because the work that makes Sizemore exceptional happens on the front lines, at client sites, often when no one is looking. It is the work you do every day. We are excited to announce the winners in this newsletter!

October 2 was Custodial Workers Recognition Day. Our janitorial teams are the largest part of this company and they tend to be the quietest about it. If you work alongside one of them, it’s never too late to say thank you.

Thank you for the work you do. It is noticed, and this issue is proof of it.

Ernie Sizemore, Chief Operating Officer

Carlson Building Maintenance Joins Sizemore

Carlson Building Maintenance joined Sizemore in July. If you have not come across them yet, here is who they are.

Carlson was founded in Minneapolis in 1959, which makes them four years younger than we are. They clean more than 250 retail and grocery locations across ten Upper Midwest states, and they now operate as Sizemore’s dedicated retail division.

Our First Winners

⭐ Sizemore Spotlight

The Sizemore Spotlight is our new quarterly recognition program, and these are the first three people to receive it. Managers across the company sent in nominations, every one was scored against the same criteria, and Ernie and Preston made the final picks. Each winner receives a Spotlight coin, a Certificate of Achievement, and their moment in front of the people they work with.

Captain Melonie Towns

Melonie Towns

Security Captain  •  Hazlehurst, GA

“I give all the credit to my team because without them, I couldn’t be as strong as I am.”

Melonie joined Sizemore in 2021 as a security officer and rose to captain of her team. She is the only one left from that team, but she continues to serve her new team selflessly. One example: during Hurricane Helene in 2024, she came back to the hospital after her shift to help count oxygen tanks. When the wind picked up around midnight, she sent her partner home to her children and took the shift, staying about 24 hours while the building ran on generators.

Marlene Portes

Marlene Portes

Area Manager  •  North Carolina & Virginia

“This company has a heart, has values that I do love and appreciate.”

When a site in Nashville was struggling, Marlene went in from her own region in Tampa. She walked the building, sat down with the new site manager and listened first, then coached her to plan ahead instead of reacting and to own her building. The site has scored above 90 every week since, and Marlene gives the manager the credit. She has since relocated and now oversees sites in both states.

Delaiah Canty

Delaiah Canty

Janitorial Technician  •  Augusta, GA

“I take pride in what I do. This has been the best job I’ve ever had.”

Delaiah had already worked a full shift and was home for the night when her manager called. A coworker had to leave for an emergency, and the shift ran until 1:00 in the morning. Delaiah said she would take care of it, got there as fast as she could, and finished the cleaning and set up the site for the morning crew. With the site short staffed, she has been picking up second shifts and weekends, and she says the whole team covers for one another.

Nominations for the next round open soon. If someone on your crew deserves this, tell your manager.

Years of Service

Twenty Years and More

Jeanette Raines

Jeanette Raines

🏆 20 Years  •  Security

Jeanette started with Sizemore Security in February 2006. She was promoted to Site Commander at a manufacturing site in Hampton, Georgia, where she became one of those people a site quietly runs on, and in June 2023 she stepped up again to Operations Manager over the Macon area. Twenty years is a long time to keep showing up with the same commitment you started with. Jeanette has, and the people who have worked for her will tell you so. Thank you, Mrs. Raines.

Christopher McGill

Christopher McGill

🏆 21 Years  •  Security

Christopher started with Sizemore Security in March 2005 and was promoted to Sergeant at a manufacturing site in Hampton, Georgia. Here is the part worth knowing: he was working at that site before it was ours. When Sizemore took it over he stayed, and he has been there ever since. Twenty one years later he is still the example other officers get pointed toward. Thank you, Sgt. McGill.

James Cole

James Cole

🏆 25 Years  •  Security  •  Retiring

James has been part of Sizemore Security for 25 years, and he spent 22 of them as Chief of Security at a hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Craig Moore has worked alongside him for 18 of those years. James wrapped up his last day with us on October 2, and we are sending him into retirement with our thanks and our very best wishes. Thank you, Mr. Cole, and happy retirement.

⚠️ Safety Spotlight

Fire Prevention Week runs October 4 to 10. Most of our people work in buildings they did not design, often on shifts when the building is nearly empty, which makes knowing the way out part of the job.

Know Your Way Out. Fire Prevention Week, October 4 to 10. Every shift, find two exits, the pull station, the extinguisher and your meeting spot. When the alarm sounds: stop work and leave now, take the stairs not elevators, close doors behind you, and check in at the meeting spot. Get out, stay out, call 9-1-1.

If your site has specific fire prevention protocols and you have been trained on them, follow those procedures safely and thoroughly.

If you cannot say where the nearest pull station and the second exit are on your site, ask your supervisor before your next shift.

On September 24 the large training room filled up for our September Celebration and a build-your-own burger bar.
